So, what was reviewed in children’s Books for the 2014 Australian Women’s Challenge?

All added up, there were 40 reviews of children’s books. The book reviewed the most was Ophelia and the Marvellous Boy by Karen Foxlee which had three reviews from Shannon, Rochelle and My Book Corner. Following up was A Very Unusual Pursuit by Catherine Jinks with two reviews from Amanda and Welcome to my Library.

Some authors had more than one book reviewed – Sophie Masson collected three reviews, while Isobelle Carmody, Jackie French and Alison Lester each had 2 books reviewed.

Delving deeper into statistics, 15 of the books reviewed were categorised as General Fiction, 11 as Speculative fiction, 2 as classic, 5 as Historical fiction and 2 non fiction. 15 of the books reviewed were picture books.

Taking a little side route we discover that 6 of the books reviewed were related to calendar events with Mother’s Day, ANZAC Day and Easter covered. Surprisingly, there weren’t any books for the later part of the calendar.

There were some wonderful reviews of children’s books shared during 2014 and it would be wonderful to see this grow in 2015. I encourage all participants to read and review children’s books this year to share the fabulous work our Australian women writers are doing.
