I thought this month I’d share books that each of us enjoyed:
Brenda enjoyed the small town setting of The Vine by Lauren K McKellar, part of a series of novellas written by different authors:
“Visit country rural NSW with a never-ending bushfire season and you’ll likely find Bindarra Creek (and many other small towns) nestled among the trees. Recommended.”
Veronica Joy enjoyed April’s Glow by Juliet Madison, fourth in the Tarrin’s Bay series:
“April’s Glow is filled with humour but it didn’t take away from the sincerity and gravity of the issues the characters faced.
A sweet light read which left me wanting more of Tarrin’s Bay and its residents.”
Popular books since the last roundup were Rebecca Raisin’s The Little Antique Shop Under the Eiffel Tower, A Kiss From Mr Fitzgerald by Natasha Lester, Sunset Shadows by Bronwyn Parry and Survivor by Amanda Pillar.
Helena @ Love Reading Romance said of Raisin’s The Little Antique Shop Under the Eiffel Tower:
“One of the things I always like best about Rebecca Raisin’s writing is her secondary characters and this story was no exception… The Little Antique Shop Under The Eiffel Tower is a fun mystery romance with the charm of Raisin’s small town novellas but in Paris!”
Julia Tulloh Harper says that A Kiss From Mr Fitzgerald is ‘good fun’:
“On the whole though, very fun, likeable characters, some awesome descriptions of lavish balls and parties, and some more upsetting descriptions of obstetrics in the 20s.”
ReadRound Oz was left ‘very satisfied’ by Sunset Shadows:
“I have read all Bronwyn Parry’s books and have never been disappointed. Â This book is no exception.”
Stephanie Gunn also loved the world building in Survivor, part of the Graced series:
“I absolutely adore the Graced universe, and I believe that the world Pillar has created is one that is unique and fascinating, even when it draws on well-worn tropes.”
We had a great range of other reviews, from category romance to historical and debut authors. One such debut author is Sally Thorne, who wrote The Hating Game. Kat @ Book Thingo sums it up best with, “An amazing debut that marries chicklit and romance in the very best ways. The hero will melt you.”
“And Josh. WHAT DO I SAY ABOUT THIS HERO? If you’re the type to adopt book boyfriends, make sure you have room for this hero.”
Elizabeth Fitzgerald found Tempting Mr Townsend by Anna Campbell
“a quick, light read”:
“I enjoyed the way Fenella genuinely loved her first husband. It makes a contrast to typical narratives–and, indeed, the situations of her two friends.”
Laura Boon Russell enjoyed The Most Scandalous Ravensdale by Melanie Milburne, part of the Ravensdale series:
“It’s difficult to develop a passionate happy ending for two characters and include thoughtful observations on the nature of family, the ties that bind and the way those ties influence and affect us in a short novel; somehow Melanie gets it right.”
