Erotica, Romance and Romantic Suspense Round Up: March 2020

It gives me great pleasure to present to you the March 2020 Romance Round Up for The Australian Women Writers Challenge. Three cheers to our incredible reviewers who have been showing their continued support for the site by adding plenty of romance reviews to our database, despite these difficult and uncertain times.

March 2020 saw a very positive intake of 28 reviews, of 23 books, of 20 authors.

The most popular book during the month of March 2020 is midwife and popular romance author Fiona McArthur’s brand new title, Midwife in the Jungle. There are three fabulous reviews for this release courtesy of Brenda, Helen Sibbritt and Veronica of The Burgeoning Bookshelf.

We welcome back Lee Christine’s Charlotte Pass for a third month running. This popular romantic suspense title was reviewed twice in March, thanks to Jennifer Cameron-Smith and Helen Sibbritt.

I reviewed a sensational new book this month over on my blog, Mrs B’s Book Reviews. I have been singing the praises of Minnie Darke’s The Lost Love Song since it released. It seems that Theresa Smith Writes also holds The Lost Love Song in high regard, thanks to her stellar review. Theresa states:

I read Star-crossed by Minnie Darke last year and instantly loved it. This year she has returned with a new novel, The Lost Love Song, and while it’s completely different to Star-crossed, it’s resulted in another case of insta-love with me. I love music: the way in which people can be brought together and connect over it, the way it can soundtrack your life, the way in which it can make you feel, and the way in which you can lose yourself in it. I would listen to music all day and night long if I could and I’ve always been that way. So this novel appealed to me right from the outset, given that it completely revolves around music and all of those things I just mentioned loving about it.

2019 Australian Romance Readers Awards winner Kylie Scott released a new standalone novel in March. Claire’s Reads and Reviews had this to say about The Rich Boy:

I’m a fan of Kylie Scott’s romance novels, they are all very different and you never know what you are going to get with each new book. This time she gives us a leading man, Beck who is a very likable busboy when we meet him, only he isn’t quite who he is pretending to be. He expresses an interest in Alice, a waitress at the bar where he is working. She’s a very down to earth girl who is exactly who she seems to be, and I think that is a big part of Beck’s attraction to her.

I’m not a big fan of the billionaire trope, but this is different from some of the other books I’ve read.

Before I close the round up for the romance genre this month, I would like to acknowledge the winners of the 2019 Australian Romance Readers Awards. The awards are held on an annual basis and recognise favourite romance fiction, as chosen by ARRA members. This year the awards were held on 7th March in Sydney and the winners were:

  • The Favourite Paranormal Romance for 2019 is Wolf Rain by Nalini Singh.
  • The Favourite Sci-Fi, Fantasy or Futuristic Romance 2019 is Wicked Wings by Keri Arthur.
  • The Favourite Historical Romance 2019 is Marry in Secret by Anne Gracie.
  • The Favourite Contemporary Romance 2019 is Lies by Kylie Scott.
  • The Favourite Short or Category Romance 2019 is Loving Lucas by Jayne Kingsley.
  • The Favourite Romantic Suspense 2019 is Shadows over Wongon Creek by Juanita Kees.
  • The Favourite Continuing Romance Series 2019 is Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones
  • The Favourite Debut Romance Author of 2019 is Samantha Marshall.
  • The Favourite Australian Romance Author 2019 is Kylie Scott.

The Members’ Choice award winners were:

  • Favourite 2019 small-town romance: The Trouble with Christmas  by Amy Andrews.
  • Favourite 2019 couple in a 2019 romance: Memory and Alexei in Wolf Rain by Nalini Singh.
  • Favourite 2019 romance cover: Repeat by Kylie Scott.

Congratulations again to all the winners and nominees. With a mixture of familiar and unfamiliar books here, I know I will be adding more than a few of these titles to my ever increasing reading pile.
