Oh My Goodness, it’s February already! Where on earth did January go? I hope you’ve all been reading some good books.

January saw 10 books reviewed, a couple of newbies and a few we’ve seen before.

Jessica Townsend’s Nevermoor series had both books 1 & 2 reviewed. Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend coverwas reviewed by Sanch Writes who says “Nevermoor is a sweet book, filled with adventure and laughts. It’s time for a new generation to enter a fantastical world of beastsand magic and possibly, the eventual fight between good and evil.” I read this a year ago Jessica Townsendand loved it, I must read book 2 Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow, especially after Jennifer gave it a five star review. She says ”
I love this series! There’s plenty of action, fascinating magic and some delightful characters. Magnificats are, well, magnificent. Ezra Squall, on the other hand, is not nice. If you’ve not yet read ‘Nevermoor’ (the first book in the series) I strongly recommend that you do so before reading ‘Wundersmith’. Ms Townsend has created a magical world and peopled it with some amazing characters.”

Nadia King reviewed Preloved by Shirley Marr an older book published in 2012, Nadia gave this one preloved-marr5 stars and says “Think teen girl obsessed with the 1980s, add in a highly superstitious Chinese mum with a vintage shop and a hunky ghost, and boy, do we have a great story.”

Vasilisa-cover-Kate-ForsythOnce again Vasilsa The Wise and Other Tales of Brave Young Women by Kath Forsyth received a review, this is one I am waiting on from the library as it has received so many glowing reviews, not just for the stories, but everyone mentions the illustrations too. Jennifer states “This is a book to treasure, to share and to reread.”  and says ” I will read these stories again: each of the young women is brave and strong. Each believes in herself.”

The Dark Days Deceit (Lady Helen #3) by Alison Goodman was reviewed by Christine who says “I’m not usually a fantasy reader, but by the time I reached the third book in this trilogy, I was putting everything on hold to read it.” I am currently reading book 1 in this series, I have to admit to finding it a bit slow, but I get the feeling that once the stage its set, things will pick up, so I am perservering with it.

Tinted Edges reveiwed  Heart’s Blood by Juliet Marillier, A historical fantasy that reimagines Beauty and The Beast. She says “Marillier, as always, gently coaxes into life sensitive and well-considered characters who overcome hardship and find strength and comfort in one-another. Marillier’s book are and continue to be incredibly inclusive and tackle modern issues through a historical lens. Although this is not the first book of hers with a character with a disability, this book is the first book of hers I have read that really explores the issue of family violence.”

So that’s it until next month, happy reading everyone and I look forward to seeing your reviews of the books you read during February.

About me: I am an avid reader who will read just about anywhere I can. I have over 1200 books on my shelves and 700 on my kindle and a TBR pile I doubt I will ever get through. I have a preference for Australian authors, but still read others. This year has seen me get into more historical fiction which I have really enjoyed. I am a Crane Operator, an Art Therapist and the Spec Fiction round-up editor for Australian Women Writers Challenge and I am currently studying to become a Copy-Editor and Proof Reader.
